Sleep is a precious commodity as one gets older. The act of nursing multiple adulthood commitments results in things getting done but often at the expense of quality, sleep being one of them. Catching up with lost Zzz on a Sunday is an antidote swallowed by most, as the sensuality of waking up at 10am with a fully-charged body is hard to trade off. However, for certain groups of car enthusiasts, that trade off is warranted. You can find them and I on the last Sunday of every month in Blackwood for one of Adelaide’s finest motoring event – Cars & Coffee Blackwood.
Cars & Coffee gatherings around the globe attract a distinct group of audience. The enthusiasts of this camp tend to own more abstract and uncommon models, usually in pristine condition. While I still observe examples of the SR20DET-powered Pulsar GTiR here and there, I almost never get to see its normally-aspirated SR16VE brother. This 8600 RPM screaming Pulsar VZ-R had me intrigued.
Another facet of Cars & Coffee I am fond of is the diverse age of vehicles in attendance. A late 60’s Ferrari Dino 246 GTS was parked meters away from a current-day Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4 Spyder. Despite the 40 year age gap, both have their distinct individual charm.
The giallo Bull was joined amongst other iconic performance cars also sporting banana-inspired hues.
In one of my previous Tokyo Auto Salon 2017 post, I mentioned the Work Equip 40 wheel. This newly introduced rim for 2017 was created as a milestone celebration, commemorating Work’s 40th year in business. I annoyingly forgot to snap a photo during my adventures around the Makuhari Messe hall, but here’s a late photo of the Work Equip 40 presented on a local NA8C MX-5. They sure do look good wrapped in Neova AD08R rubber.
Another Work wheels fan was also in attendance. Hiding in the overflow car park, this tidy 86 was lowered on a set of 18″ gold-faced Work VS-XX with polished lip.
A respectful assortment of late model Japanese heroes were sprinkled throughout the Woolworths Blackwood complex. If your MY99+ Lamborghini Diablo requires new headlights, don’t pay the premium for OEM items from Sant’Agata Bolognese. Simply purchase a pair from a Nissan Z32 300ZX/Fairlady Z; after all, they’re an identical component.
Contemporary supercars usually steal the show when they slowly but loudly manoeuvre their way into the tight venue. For C&C August, the accolades went to the previously pictured yellow Huracan and this silver McLaren 650S. Unfortunately, steep-depreciation (relative to rival supercars) is commonly associated with a majority of brand new McLaren road models. On the flip side, they make great bang-for-buck used buys.
Now that we official exit the dreaded winter and welcome the blossoming of spring, there should be even more owners willing to bring out their interesting machinery to Cars & Coffee Blackwood. This should be ample encouragement for you and I to warrant trading our sleep-in-Sunday to see what automotive surprises we’ll encounter throughout the remainder of 2018.
